Today we are throwing away huge amounts of packaging, large and small. This is a problem that only grows in the accelerating globalization. With clever packaging, we solve many problems of sustainability, both in terms of work environment and climate. The assignment was to develop a smart packaging concept that makes it easier to pack and transport large industrial products.

We started by visiting Volvo Trucks factory i Umeå to interview and observe the people working with packing and logistics. The ergonomic aspect of the users and the functional requirements posed by the logistical chain gave great inspiration to the concept.

Due to the design and the lightweight composite materials the box is constructed so a single person can handle the packaging without being exposed to heavy physical stress. The box consists of materials that can be completely recycled without loss of quality and therefore be part of a sustainable cycle.
